User cannot connect to Exchange or OWA

How To, tech | Posted by [[Neo]] March 8th, 2010

Today I had a user tell me that when he rebooted his computer (Vista Business SP2 x32), he could no longer connect to our Exchange 2003 server with Outlook 2007. It prompted him with the “Retry | Work Offline | Cancel” dialog. Clicking “Retry” did nothing, clicking “Work Offline” threw an error:

“The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.”

The user could not connect to Exchange via Outlook 2007, nor via IE8. Firefox worked just fine after adding the https exception for our server’s self-signed certificate. So the problem wasn’t Outlook, nor was it a problem with the server. It had to be a problem with the network connection – but up to 7 system restarts still hadn’t fixed the issue. There were no proxies, IE8 was reset to manufacturer’s defaults, and the server’s domain name was put into the Trusted Sites list on IE. Read the rest of this entry »

HP 4240n 49.ff09 Service Error

How To, tech | Posted by [[Neo]] January 18th, 2010

Today we experienced a new-to-me error code on our HP 4240n LaserJet printer that read “49.ff09 Service Error”.

After much searching on the internet, I found a couple different sites talking about the 49.xxxx Service Errors and what others had done in their troubleshooting efforts. Most of the links I came across mentioned something about reseating the memory stick and JetDirect card. I tried both those solutions, with a printer reboot several times. The only way to clear the error message is to reboot the computer also. Read the rest of this entry »

I came into work today, and was met with some people telling me that our site had been blacklisted. It took a lot of runaround, and everyone denying involvement, but it sorta worked itself out. So what exactly happened?

Review: Dell Solar Charger for mobile devices

Concepts, Gadgets, Reviews, tech | Posted by [[Neo]] September 17th, 2009

I’m sitting here at my desk, and a package is delivered to me, for my boss, from Dell. But my boss is gone this week, and since it’s from Dell, and I’m the IT Admin, I open it up.

Turns out, there is a Dell Solar Charger for mobile devices in there.

Dell Solar Charger

I spent a good 45-60 minutes on the internet searching Dell.com and talking with the Tech Support to figure out how this got here, and where I could get my own. Why? Because it’s the closest thing to a wireless power supply that I can get right now that would let me charge my phone anywhere. And (after being stranded in a bad part of Dallas, TX, at 2am, with a dead phone and sitting outside a sex-toy shop/tattoo parlor) I need to be able to charge my phone – anywhere.

This is my first review of a technology product, and I’ve only had it for about 3 hours, but there are some things I already have to say about it. Read the rest of this entry »

Hamachi Web Status Images

How To, Programming, Projects, tech, tsnLocal.net | Posted by [[Neo]] September 17th, 2009

Update…

Unfortunately, LogMeIn figured out they forgot about that page, I guess when people started reading this post and hitting it on their servers. They have removed the text status as well as all the others, and I can’t figure out why they would do such a thing.

I’m also not sure what they’re offering as an alternative either. So if you know, please leave a comment below. Thanks.

Depreciated Process…

A while back, I started a project called tsn.lcl or tsnlocal, but gave up on it when my electricity bill hit $400 in a month.

Today, I decided to fix up the domain name and get it back on the internet – at least to remove it from GoDaddy’s Parking Page – where they’re making money, not me, off of it.

When I got it published I noticed that none of the Hamachi Web Status images worked anymore, and that the link to such an image, redirected to their login page for your Hamachi Management Dashboard. However, upon further investigation, I found that there was not only an Image version of those status instances, but also a text version.

I really wanted to show the online status of all my machines again, so I wrote my own php script to parse that text data, and created some simple images to show on the website based on the returned status.

So here’s the code so you can do the same thing… Read the rest of this entry »
