Ok, here are the requirements for joining tsnlocal. If you have questions, post them here, don’t IM me about them – I won’t be available.
System Requirements:
– Windows XP/2000 or Linux
– Hi-Speed Internet Connection (recommended)
Procedure:
– Visit http://the-spot.net/myspot.php and login.
– Leave this open in the background. You’ll need it for screenshots.
– Visit http://update.windows.com to get the latest updates for your Windows.
– Update your computer until it says there are no more updates
– Position this window over and to the side of the MySpot page, showing your logged into the site, and so that I can see there are no more windows updates for your computer.
– If you are running a “liberated” copy of Windows XP, and cannot update, then be sure you’ve turned on your Automatic Updates (found in your control panel, or by visiting the Windows update site) and show the System Properties (by right clicking on the My Computer icon, choosing Properties, Selecting the “General” tab) so I can see that you have Service Pack 2 on your computer.
– Take a screenshot of this
– Press “PrtScr” button by the F12 key, open MS Paint, Edit > Paste, File > Save As > save as a .jpg file
– Email this to graphics@the-spot.net– Run Spybot Search & Destroy
– If you don’t have this program go to safer-networking.org and pick a place to download it from.
– Update your definitions for the program, and run it over your computer to remove any and all spyware that may be on your computer. Do it over and over until it’s completely clean.
– Position the finished results window in the same mannor as the Windows Update window over the-spot.net, and take a screenshot of that, save it as a .jpg, and email it.– Run Adaware
– If you don’t have this program, go to lavasoft.com and download it there.
– Update your definitions for the program, and run it over your computer to remove any and all adware that may be on your computer. Do it over and over until it’s completely clean.
– Position the finished results window in the same mannor as the Windows Update window over the-spot.net, and take a screenshot of that, save it as a .jpg, and email it.– Run Virus Scan
– If you don’t have a virus scan program (SBC Virus scan, yahoo virus scan, or any other scan from an internet search company DOES NOT COUNT!!!) then get one from AVG’s website, grisoft.com for free.
– Update your definitions for the program, and run it over your computer to remove any and all viruses that may be on your computer. Do it over and over until it’s completely clean.
– Position the finished results window in the same mannor as the Windows Update window over the-spot.net, and take a screenshot of that, save it as a .jpg, and email it.When all of these things have been done and confirmed, you’ll be sent more instructions with the password for you to log into tsnlocal. Do not share the password with anyone, because we are watching who joins the network, and the password will only work for you, and only in the set amount of time that will be specified.
All of these software tools are free, as is the connection to hamachi for now. If there starts to be problems with security and viruses spreading, it will be considered to making it a subscription-based service (with the money going towards funding the search technologies…it’s not free to run 2 computers 24/7 to index. 😉 )
Be aware that these requirements can change at any time, and I’ll make notification if they do. If such changes require that you perform the extra act to stay secure, then you will need to do so, or be faced with removal from the network.

Can’t I just use Norton for this? Besides, using Search and Destroy takes a while. Also, I’m afraid to use Adaware because it quarantined an important file which almost screwed up my computer. I’ll give it a shot though if need be.

no, you cannot use norton for this, you can use norton for virus scan, because that’s all it is…a virus scan.
I’m strict on these things because it deals with people’s personal computers, not just a website somewhere.
Also, adaware won’t quarintine an important file unless it’s adware, and if that’s the case, then it needs to be quarintined anyway. I may not like Norton though, and if that’s the case, then just unselect norton from the things to delete.
Now, also to whatever person is reading this, you’re not going to be able to visit the-spot.net to log in, but you can register for this site, and show your profile page, or this comment page where it says you’re logged in as you, to leave a comment. Basically it’s anything that I run for the-spot.net is acceptable, so I can ascertain that it’s actually you and not you doing it for a friend.
Leave a comment here though so noting that you’re using this page though.

Then you must have never had the 180 Search Assistant affect your computer before. Here’s a link.

It a program that spys and affects your registry keys, a big no no in my case.
And if you try to uninstall it, it either reinstalls itself, or recognizes that its been uninstalled and asks you to reinstall it. Sneaky program.
Where I’m getting at with this is that this very program caused my Adaware to think that one of the registry keys was spyware, and tried to quarantine it…I’ve also known people who have gone through the exact same problem with Adaware quaranting important files such as registry keys, that wasn’t even this spyware program, and causes their computers to mess up.
That’s why I don’t trust Adaware. I had to system restore because of the smurfin’ thing.
Also Norton does Adware scans as well, just to let you know. I got the Security Suite 2006 version.
Ah, ok, I run 2002, so I don’t know what all they’ve included.
Also the 180 search deal is a bad thing, I agree, but it’s not adaware’s fault that it quarintined it, it’s the search spyware that you had.
If you have adware search with Norton, then that’s fine too. I just need to know that – not see that someone did virus scan, and then they claim they scanned for adware too.
I can understand that. But I don’t see why people from tsn would lie to you….You’ve been working on this project for a while now and most of us, if not, all of us know by now about it. You make kewl stuff, and we should only give you the utmost respect for making projects such as tsn.lcl when you could obviously be doing something else.
Well, in any case keep it up Neo…I’m out to make sure I got a full system scan of it all.

Thanks for the nice words, kaze.
And yes, most people do know, but some people don’t care. It’s hard to believe, but some people aren’t interested in the fact that I spend more time on tsn and it’s projects than I do studying for class or devotion to work/personal life.
And my apologies for those that read this who hold the opinion of me being a little harsh/strict about the rules. I take better care of my computer than I do of my car – and I want to at least make sure everyone else has the same kind of care taken when they put their computer on a network I’m sponsoring.
Neo said:”I take better care of my computer than I do of my car…”
I do too simply because of the fact that I don’t even own a car.
Is anyone preparing to connect to this?
Well, after all the hype and interest, there hasn’t been anyone to request to join tsnlocal – or if they have, I haven’t seen any emails for it.
